There are a total of 14 National Parks in the UK. There are 9 in England, 3 in Wales and 2 in Scotland. The first area to be designated a National Park was the Peak District in 1951 with the most recent addition being the New Forest in 2005.
There are a total of 4604 archaeological sites or buildings within the National Park network that are protected and deemed to be of national importance. There are 517 conservation areas in the National Parks.
The National Park network covers a total of 8862 square miles.
An estimated 120 million people a year visit the network of National Parks.
