The stunning Cairngorms National Park provides the perfect environment for wildlife, the park is home to a quarter of the rarest species in the UK. The semi-tundra landscape is rich in bird, animal and plant life. Amongst the birds regularly spotted in the Cairngorms are the Golden Eagle, Snowy Owl, Scottish Crossbill and Ring Ouzel. It is not uncommon to spot Red Deer, Red Squirrel, Otter and Wild Reindeer.

The Cairngorms is extremely popular with walkers and climbers who come to take on the challenges of the higher mountains, well cyclists and less experience walkers enjoy the less hazardous low level paths and trails. The Lochs and rivers are ideal for fly fishing. In winter the Cairngorms become a magnet for winter sports lovers with the Cairn Gorm Ski Cente, The Lecht Ski Centre and the Glenshee Ski Centre all located within the national park.

The lowest UK temperature of -27.2 has been recorded in the Cairngorms and it is common for the snow to remain on the hills till August, however in recent years the snow has melted earlier which may in par be due to climate change.
